In 2022, I had the opportunity to go to the Dominican Republic to go serve with my fellow church members. We volunteered for eight days working at construction sites, clinics, and doing home visitations. While at the clinics and doing home visits, I was able to pray for the families and hold their babies while the nurses prepped their medications, the parents made their food, or they just needed a break.
During my time there, I held over twenty babies, and I clearly remember that only one had a diaper. Of course, the mothers did not have the rest of their babies bare-skinned. Instead they used small blankets or cloths. When it got dirty, they would fold it and use the other side, which caused it to have an uncomfortable smell, breaking my heart.
On the last day of our service trip, I started questioning my presence there. I cried and asked God what the purpose of my visit was, especially since I felt limited and didn’t think I could do anything more for these families. Being a refugee myself, I know the pain and suffering of living in a very unfortunate place with limited resources. I lived in a refugee camp for a long time and had two kids there. No matter how hard times were, one thing I never lacked was diapers for the two of them. Seeing the mothers in the Dominican Republic struggle and lack diapers for their infants truly broke my heart.
Upon our return, I was still complaining to God about their conditions, and I heard a voice that said, “Why don’t you do something about it?” I asked myself “What exactly can I do,” and the voice once again responded, “Buy diapers.” I came up with the idea of purchasing reusable diapers, which are cloth diapers that can be washed, dried and last a long time. They are the same ones I used for my kids.
I created this website with the goal of helping families, especially mothers, have access to diapers. My hope for anyone that is reading this story is if you’re able to purchase reusable diapers, please consider doing so, and ship them to the address that’s listed on this website. When I go back to the Dominican Republic, I will deliver them to the families. If you are unable to donate, I ask that you pray for these families, and ask God to better their situation and protect them at all times. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about this mission.
